Michel de Nostradame by ~ritn:iconritn:

Where will I be
To tell is difficult.
de Nostradame could show me
Using the forbidden books on the occult,
A bowl of water, a brass tripod,
Shimmering cloudy, withholding visions.
But if I knew my destiny
Would it change my future decisions?

Will life entail famine, death and war
Or peace, harmony and happiness galore?
Am I approaching the appocalypse
Foretold by a solar eclipse?

What will I see?
What will the future hold?
I could travel to Salon
And could be as bold
As to ask for his help
With anything at all.
The questions I could ask
Only for his fall.

Estant assis de nuict secret estude
Seul reposé sur la selle d'aerain;
Flambe exigue sortant de solitude
Fait prosperer qui n'est á croire vain.

Author's Comments

This one will need a good bit of describing. For those of you who don't know, Michel de Nostradame (Nostradamus) was a French doctor/philosopher who has become very famous from the books he wrote during his time (1500's). He was a very intelligent man and is claimed to have been able to make predictions of things that would happen in the future.

He wrote a book called "The Prophecies" which contains 1000 verses of four lines each. They each try to explain what he sees when he experiences these premonitions and have been known to describe things like air travel, famine, war and even the appocalypse. He used a brass tripod with a bowl of water on it in order to see the future and it is said that he was also studying the forbidden books of the occult while doing this.

The last verse in this poem comes from the first verse in his book "The Prophecies" because I thought it would go well with my poem. It is written in French/Latin/Greek though so I think I should translate what it says here...

Sitting alone at night in secret study,
It is placed on the brass tripod;
A slight flame comes out of the emptiness
And makes successful that which should not be believed in vain.

If you're interested, there are loads of books about what he wrote and did during his life

And I'm also not very happy with this. Sometimes I like it and sometimes not... I don't know???

This is so cool and different! It's intrigueing and has a slightly narrative aspect. I like it!

Thanks for the kind comment :) I was trying to be a little different to what is usually done with poetry, but I amn't sure if I did it without just making something crap! I'm glad you like it

On and on and on it goes,
The world it just keeps spinning.
Until I'm dizzy, time to breathe,
So close my eyes and start again, anew.

:wow: I'll give you a dollar if you translate the whole thing into French/Latin/Greek.

A heart is a fragile thing...
Some hearts are more fragile than others.
Purer, somehow.
Like crystal in a world of glass,
Even the way they shatter is beautiful.

Thanks! I wasn't sure if I should have done that or not since it was his writing, but I just thought it went well  Probably the best four lines of the poem!!!

hehe! I think you might have got me wrong! I can't speak or read either of the three languages hehe - except for a tiny bit of French. The book I'm reading has the translations of it and that's how I knew. I'm not that feckin' intelligent! I'm not even intelligent! hehe :giggle:
